Beres has initiated, grown and led the façade teams at three international engineering consultants before founding Surface Design in 2010. During this time he has developed a unique understanding in the design and selection of building fabric.

He has substantial experience in shading, daylight and thermal performance of façades. His focus has been the integration of the façade with other disciplines and sustainable design principles. He has developed a wholistic view of the design and performance of façade systems and has a particular interest in the use of glass as the prime architectural element optimizing its structural as well as energy modifying properties. He has been invited internationally as guest lecturer on these and other topics.

He commenced his professional career as a Structural Engineer at Ove Arup and Partners winning the Ove Arup scholarship. He spent twelve years in Arup living and working in Australia, the United Kingdom and Malaysia. He started Hyder’s façade business with the team in Sydney and establishing the business in London before moving to Connell Wagner (now Aurecon) where he grew the façade business from 8 people in 2 locations to over 100 people in 10 offices. He has successfully established a fully integrated building science business where facades, sustainable design and other specialist work together.
