After 22 years as a Fire Protection Engineer with Clark County Building Department, Mr. Evans founded DHE FPE LLC to provide specialized consulting services to the construction industry. In his position with Clark County, his primary focus was coordinating fire protection aspects for the mega-resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. Prior to that, Mr. Evans worked for two world renowned fire protection engineering consulting firms. He has been responsible for malls, atria, theaters, arenas and mega-resorts, as well as numerous high-rise residential and office towers. He has also been responsible for developing fire protection related policy statements and guidelines for internal and external use.
Mr. Evans has developed an understanding of virtually all active and passive fire protection aspects that are incorporated into major structures and how they work together to provide a holistic approach to fire protection for a contiguous facility. This includes suppression and detection/alarm systems, fire-resistive construction, exiting, elevators, secondary power supplies, fire testing, fire modeling, hazardous materials and the specific codes/ standards requirements that apply to these aspects.
Throughout his career, Mr. Evans has published several articles in trade journals and given numerous professional presentations. He has authored a number of amendments that have been incorporated into the International Building Code (IBC).
Mr. Evans is a registered Fire Protection Engineer in Nevada and California, a member of the ICC Building Code Interpretation Committee, and has served as a member of the ICC Fire Safety Committee. He has additionally served on the Board of Directors of the Southern Nevada Chapter of ICC, and helped establish the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), where he served as president. He is now a Fellow of SFPE National.
Mr. Evans is an emeritus member of Consulting-Specifying Engineering’s Editorial Advisory Board and a member of NFPA, where he has served on their Research Foundation Technical Committee reviewing worldwide losses of Exterior Façade Fires.
He graduated from California State University at Los Angeles (CSULA) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
