Katherine Grenier graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1978. Since 2004 she has been the chief of design and construction planning for the recently completed renovation of United Nations Headquarters in New York. A UN staff member since 1995, she also managed the study and preliminary phase of what became the capital master plan for the $2 billion modernization of the iconic campus. Her previous experience included a similar role with the New York State Facilities Development Corporation, managing the development of a long term capital plan for psychiatric facilities across the state, as well as managing the design of renovation and new construction projects for New York State agencies.
