About

Neville J. Mathias is an Associate Principal at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). Mathias is deeply committed to the integration of innovation in structural engineering. Many of the projects he has been associated with have won numerous awards for excellence in design. Mathias has worked on tall, complex and large-scale building projects across the United States and around the world. His portfolio includes new buildings as well as retrofits that span a wide range of building functional types, materials, and structural systems. Many of Mathias’ projects have required the use of non-prescriptive or performance-based design approaches.

Mathias holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Madras University in India and Master’s degrees in Structural Engineering and Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He has participated in authoring numerous papers and…
