Architect, builder, and developer Tommy Schwarzkopf founded Uribe Schwarzkopf in 1973, and has since played a foundational role in contributing to the growth of Quito. Through pioneering the construction of high-rise apartment buildings to develop a new concept of urbanism for the city while improving the quality of public space and life around these homes, Tommy Schwarzkopf has spurred on and encouraged Quito’s growth into the thriving metropolis it is today.
Over the past 46 years, Uribe Schwarzkopf has undertaken more than 200 projects. Recently, the company has collaborated with internationally renowned architects and designers including Jean Nouvel, Moshe Safdie, Marcel Wanders, and Bjarke Ingels, Bernardo Fort-Brescia, Carlos Zapata and Tatiana Bilbao. These projects build on changes sparked by the early work of the company, which are representative of a new future for the city. With the upcoming opening of the city’s first metro line in 2020, Quito is becoming a more urban, dynamic, and creative place day by day.
Under Tommy Schwarzkopf’s leadership and vision as the CEO of Uribe Schwarzkopf, the firm has fostered healthy urbanism through the design of quality buildings and homes that provide a better lifestyle to its inhabitants, established new architectural and environmental benchmarks for the city, and enabled communities and neighborhoods to prosper.
Tommy Schwarzkopf, the son of Czech immigrants, was born in Quito in 1954. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Central University in Ecuador and later took some specialization courses in Harvard University.
