In 1999, MENG Yan co-founded URBANUS with partners LIU Xiaodu and WANG Hui. URBANUS developed branches in Shenzhen and Beijing and has become one of the most influential architectural practices in China. Urbanus built works have become new landmarks of urban life. Many projects have received prestigious architecture awards, exhibited and published worldwide.

As Principal in Charge of Design, Meng Yan has designed numerous projects over the years that has won international reputation for URBANUS, including Luohu Art Museum, Dafen Art Museum, Tulou Collective Housing, OCT Art & Design Gallery, Oct Loft Renovation, Maillen Hotel & Apartment, Nanshan Marriage Registration center, and Library of South University of Science and Technology. Recently he is overseeing the completion of Artron Art Center, CGN Headquarter Tower, Zhongdian Complex and Shum Yip Upperhills Loft. Meng Yan has also led many urban design and research projects, such as Hubei Village Preservation and Regeneration Research, Huaqiangbei Catic City Urban Design and Renovation, Baishizhou 5 Villages Research and Urban Design, Urban design and Research of Beijing Qianmen East Courtyard House Area, etc.

MENG Yan received his Bachelor and Master’s degrees of Architecture from Tsinghua University, and Master’s degree of Architecture from Miami University, and he is an architect licensed in New York State. Meng Yan has been design critic in many universities, and taught at School of Architecture, Hongkong University. He was appointed chief curator of the Shenzhen Pavilion in 2010 Shanghai Expo. and has been academic committee member of Shenzhen/Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale. Meng Yan has been invited as jury member for numerous international design competitions and to give lectures at many influential academic institutions in New York, Venice, Moscow, Rotterdam, Brussels and Singapore.
