Professor Wu was born in Shanghai in 1959. He graduated from the Tongji University architecture program in 1983. He once served as associate director of the Architecture Department at Tongji University, associate dean of the Architecture and Urban Planning Department, and acted as dean of the Architecture and Urban Planning Department from July 2009 to March 2014. He is now a professor, doctoral supervisor, and director of the architectural discipline in professional committee in the Architecture and Urban Planning Department of Tongji University. As a National First-Class Registered Architect, he now also serves the Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd (TJAD) as trustee and vice-president. His other academic titles include: deputy director of the National Higher Education Institutions’ Steering Committee in Architecture Major, member of the National Higher Education Institutions’ Assessment Committee in Architecture Major, managing director of the Architectural Education Assessment Chapter of the Architectural Society of China and the Architects Chapter of the Architectural Society of China, deputy director of the Architecture Committee for the China Artists Association, managing director of The Architectural Society of Shanghai, China, and deputy director of the Architecture Design Association.
He has been teaching, researching, and practicing architectural design and theory for many years, focusing on public architecture and tall building design strategies. He has led many research projects for the National Science and Technology Support Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC ), and the Shanghai Municipal Government. He has completed more than ten major architecture, construction, and engineering design projects, including more than 20 tall building designs. His projects have been awarded many national and local architectural design awards, as well as urban and rural planning awards. His project entitled “Beichuan Earthquake Relics Museum Planning and the Overall Program Design” was awarded a top prize in the Shanghai and Sichuan province for outstanding urban and rural planning and design.
