David Chen joined the firm in 1982. His work includes towers and large-scale commercial developments as well as projects for higher education.
Mr. Chen has led several high-rise towers and mixed-use developments in Asia. As Principal-in-Charge, current projects include Taikang Headquarters for Taikang Insurance Company in Beijing; Brightoil Shenzhen Headquarters, a mixed-use complex with 450-meter tower in Shenzhen; 18 King Wah Road, a boutique office tower in North Point area of Hong Kong; Baosteel Guangzhou Tower, an office tower with retail complex in Guangzhou; Ningbo East New Town, a master plan of twelve plots including office, retail, and entertainment facilities in Ningbo, China.
Recently completed projects include Vietcombank Tower, the Ho Chi Minh City headquarters of Vietnam’s largest publicly traded bank; Raycom Tower in Beijing, the headquarters at Raycom Infotech Park for Legend Holdings Subsidiary; World Financial Centre, a pair of twin office towers totaling 240,000 square meters in the CBD of Beijing; Shanghai IFC, a large mixed-use development of three towers—one of which contains the headquarters of HSBC—a shopping mall, and a public plaza. Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower and Mandarin Oriental Tokyo, the 3rd building for the Mitsui Bank Headquarters Complex; NTT Headquarters, regional headquarters for NTT in Shinjuku District of Tokyo.
In addition to his design responsibilities, Mr. Chen has been instrumental in the advancement of the firm’s computer systems, local area networks, and Internet strategies. He lectures on these subjects at the Yale School of Architecture.
Mr. Chen received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Architecture from Yale University.
